Nebraska-born
(1918) Joyce Ballantyne is another well known member of the
exclusive "girl's club" among the pin-up artists. Like Zoe Mozert,
she catches a fresh, true to life sensuality in her subjects,
and often shows a distinct sense of humour.
Like Mozert, she was and hopefully still is as attractive as
a pin-up herself: blonde, green-eyed, and barefoot more likely
than not.
Advertising artist Joyce Ballantyne's vivid oils, Coppertone's
little girl whose bathing suit is being tugged off by a playful
puppy is hers, rival those of her one-time instructor Gil Elvgren.
While this example clearly echoes the famous Elvgren, whom she
is said to have both assisted and even ghosted, her women were
often shown in a more relaxed, more natural fashion than the
studied coy poses of her male counterparts.
